Mel’s garden in Sheffield (S8)

Mel's dog relaxing on her lawn.

Wanted! A wonderful animal and wildlife loving gardener in S8.

Featured Garden

Mel’s downsized but the garden is still a big problem. A dream for someone who wants to garden in the Sheffield S8 area.

Mel says:

About the garden

The front is a communal space but the side and back is mine to do as I please. I’ve cleaned up most of the rubbish now and got the weeds and grass down considerably. I’m an animal lover (with a small dog and an outdoor cat) so I’d want to encourage a pet and wildlife-friendly area but also, I feel there might be space to grow some vegetables (in raised beds maybe?).

You’d be a wise apple to share Mel’s garden…look at all that fruit on the tree!

Why Lend Your garden?

I hate to think of people waiting endlessly for an allotment; I know several folk who have them and they enjoy them so much. If I can help someone with a little space to grow some veg and/or create a wildlife haven, I’d be delighted.

Considerations

Pros

The garden runs around a bungalow with its own access. To the side of the bungalow is potential for stepped, raised beds and/or planters for edible climbers like beans and peas. There are also two good-sized flower beds front and back. We get a lot of sun all round so that’s good but the back garden is particularly bright in the afternoons/evenings.

Cons

Dealing with the bindweed can be a major task since it is highly invasive and can be extremely challenging to manage.
